So You’re Planning a Bachelor Party? Here’s How To Do It

Whether you’re the groom or the guy in charge, this is the starter article for BachTix's Guide to bachelor parties.

So You’re Planning a Bachelor Party? Here’s How I Do It

Congratulations are in order! Maybe you’re the one getting married, or maybe you’re the best man gone awol-travel agent for your degenerate friends. Either way, you’ve landed in the right spot. BachTix specializes in Bachelor party recommendations. But before you get into my lineup of trip ideas, let’s talk about how I think about bachelor parties.

Let me say this up front: Bachelor parties are a rite of passage. And, everyone gets excited to go on a vacation with their buddies. But, you don’t have to throw a big bachelor party. Weddings are expensive enough, and if the idea of stacking a boys' trip, a wedding, and a honeymoon back-to-back sounds like financial crisis, I get it. No judgment, you shouldn't let FOMO put you in a hard place long-term. If a small get-together is more your style, just get together with a fire pit and drink every light beer within a 100 mile radius.

That said, if you’re in for a big weekend, please check the temperature of the entire wedding party so they know what they are being voluntold for. This is a vacation for the groom, but it’s also a vacation for everyone else. Don't let that stop you from making executive decisions to get things done though. Now, let's get into it.

A BachTix Guide to Bachelor Party

Each BachTix Trip Guide I write comes with some structure to keep things apples-to-apples for you. This is what you can expect from my articles:

  1. Location: I start with the region and city. These spots are picked with accessibility in mind. This means I tried to write about cities that have a major airport to reduce layovers, and are walkable to reduce the Uber tax. Most guides are going to be cities that are interesting and/or different unless there's just a no-brainer out there.

  2. The Hook: Every destination has a unique reason to stand out. This is what you will tell your co-workers you are doing for the party and is usually the one big thing to plan around. Maybe it’s a MLB game, or a festival, or something outdoorsy. Most all hooks are going to be summer focused and for the boys. But, whatever it is, this is the cornerstone of the trip.

  3. The Time Wasters: A surefire way to kill a bachelor party is to over book the trip like a bachelorette party. Your itinerary should be mostly empty, but you still need stuff to do, right? These suggestions are just ways to have a good time in each city. The focus is on limiting down time IF you don't want any.

  4. Golf, Because Why Not: This is my signature touch on all my recos because BachTix wouldn't exist without Golf. The Golf Groomsman Proposal Ticket is our best seller so I'm willing to bet there's enough of yall that swing the sticks and want these tips. Some of you, like me, might even make the entire bachelor party a golf trip. Either way, golf is the ultimate time waster and can fill up a perfect day, so I include two golf courses, their cost, and a reliable ranking in each guide. I also post the nearest Topgolf / golf sim.

Last, I would be a bad guide if cost was not mentioned anywhere. It is damn hard to plan a vacation WITH A FLIGHT for less than $800 per person. If that number gives you some sticker shock, I would recommend caravaning to a drivable location or our article on joint bachelor-bachelorette parties.

Planning for any group trip can spiral out of control if you overthink it. Bachelor parties are no exception. Simplify it by asking questions, making hard and fast calls, being flexible, and locking in the date early. HERE is a link to all my guides by Region & City.
